Retired as Director General Ordnance Services and Senior Colonel Commandant, Army Ordnance Corps on 31 Mar 1993 after 38 years of meritorious service in the Army for which he was awarded the Ati Vashisht and Param Vashisht Seva Medals by the President of India. During his service, he held, among others, the appointments of Commandant College of Materials Management and Dean Faculty of Management Rani Durgavati Vishawa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur. He controlled an inventory of over 500,000 items, valued at Rs 50,000 crores with a workforce of 1600 officers and 80,000 staff.
Lt Gen Kalra is an experienced instructor and effective communicator acknowledged for his conceptual and analytical skills as well as erudition. He is a visiting faculty at the IIM Rohtak, IIFT, FORE School and European Management Institute New Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, IMT and NIFM Ghaziabad, NIAM Jaipur, MANAGE Hyderabad, ONGC Academy Dehradun and NAAA Shimla. A powerful and convincing speaker, he has made Supply Chain Management and International Logistics as his core competence and successfully conducted a large number of training programmes in the same for several organizations. He also teaches a whole range of soft skills, Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility.
Besides several published professional papers, the General Officer has co-authored the Book “Supply Chain Management, Strategy Planning and Operation” with two American authors, Sunil Chopra and Peter Meindl; Pearson Education. This book is standard text in most Management Institutes in the Country and abroad.
